A late 17th century edition of Stoz’s manual on the practice of confession, known as the Tribunal of Penitence, or two books, the first of which is about the penitent, and the latter about the accused, about the confessor and the judge. Of Stoz, he was a Jesuit, university professor in Ebersberg and Freiburg im Breisgau, and rector of the colleges in Lucerne and Constance.

This volume has been bound in blind stamped pigskin over wooden boards. There are tooled decorations to the center of the covers. There are border decorations.

This volume bears the stamp of the dissolved monastery library Franziskaner Kloster Dettelbach.

Two parts bound into one pigskin volume in quarto, (24)+403, (1)+344 pages

This volume is in poor shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and damage to the rear cover, with worming boring through to the last 8 pages. The flyleaves are title page are badly damaged, with the frontispiece torn halfway through. There is foxing and staining throughout.
