A first UK edition of William Thackeray’s The Virginians, being a sequel to Henry Esmond, and being loosely tied to Pendennis. This work takes place during the American Revolutionary War, displaying oppositions from American to British sides of the war.
The story follow’s Edmond’s grandsons, George and Henry, with the latter somehow getting drafted into the British army through a series of unforeseen events.
With the novel being positively received, with it becoming one of the standards of 19th century fiction.
There is an engraved title to each volume, as well as a total of 48 woodcut plates, alongside in text illustrations.

On note of condition, these volumes are in fair shape, with the front board detached from volume I, with the back board starting to detached from the top. There is wear on the covers and corners, with significant joint wear. There is little to no foxing present throughout.
