A German translation of one of the theological works of the Portuguese scholar, reformer, and mystic, Thomas of Jesus, being the Trials of Jesus when roughly translated.
His work was originally published under the title Trabalhos de Jesus, or more simply, The Passion of Jesus, being a mystical text that vividly depicts the Passion of Christ.
The book was published between 1602 and 1609, undergoing numerous translations and publications, with the first German edition being published in 1661 under the title "Aerumnae D. N. Jesus Christ", although this particular copy was printed a few years afterwards.
One large volume bound in 4to format. Alum tawed pigskin binding, 979 pages plus unnumbered index.
On note of condition, the volume is neatly bound in an engraved pigskin binding, though the engravings are purely decorative.. One clasp is present, though the leather strap for the other is there as well.
The pages are moderately foxed and stained, and there is some wear and chipping on the covers as well along with some worming to the boards. Overall, a fairly treated and preserved copy.
