A finely bound first edition set of Thackeray's The Newcomes, with charming steel and wood engravings by Richard Doyle. The Newcomes is particularly well known for its astounding amount of 19th century pop culture, to the point that the common 21st century reader will most certainly recognize at least one or two references.
Two finely bound volumes in octavo, 380+375 pages
Both volumes are profusely illustrated with in text pieces, with 46 engraved plates present, including the title pages. Two of the original canary-yellow cover titles from the monthly serials precede the printed title pages.
On note of condition, these volumes are in very good shape, with minor wear on the joints. There is virtually no foxing or staining present.
