Title: The History of Pendennis, 1849-1850. 1st UK Edition
Author: William Makepeace Thackeray
Publisher: Bradbury and Evans, London
A first UK edition of William Thackeray’s popular History of Pendennis, being a tale of the titular main character who travels to London in order to seek his role in life and society. Just like the rest of Thackeray’s works, Pendennis provides a unique and satiric picture of aristocratic society, human character, and 19th century England.
There is an engraved title to each volume, as well as a total of 46 woodcut plates, alongside in text illustrations.
Two volumes in octavo, 384+372 pages
On note of condition, both volumes are in poor shape, with both boards from volume I fully detached, and the front board on volume II just hanging on by a few threads. The spines are also flapping off and on. There is little to no foxing present.
