Title: Stars of the Desert, 1913
Author: Laurence Hope
Publisher: William Heinemann, London
Condition: Good

An early 20th century edition of Adela Florence Nicolson’s book of lyric poetry, Stars of the Desert, which was written under her pseudonym Laurence Hope. The poems were given as if they were translations of Indian poets by a male, as Nicolson believed the work would receive more attention as opposed to releasing it under her own name.

The poetry is characteristic of Nicolson's poems, often using imagery and symbols from the poets of the North-West Frontier of India and the Sufi poets of Persia. The poems are typically about unrequited love and loss, typically ending in death following a series of unfortunate events. These poems made her one of the most popular poets of the Edwardian Era.

One finely bound volume in octavo, 152 pages

On note of condition, this book is in good shape, with minor scuffing and staining noted at the edges and boards, and wear at the joints, with the top part of the front board starting to detach. There is very minor chipping at the spine. There is little to no foxing or staining present throughout.
