An extremely scarce mid 19th century edition of Touri’s Shūgyoku hyakunin isshu Ogura shiori, an illustrated educational encyclopaedia of poetry, geared towards young women. This work is illustrated by Keisai Eisen, a famous Japanese ukiyo-e artist who specialised in bijin-ga, or “pictures of beautiful women”.
More than half the pages feature woodblock illustrations throughout. There are 6 full-page and full color woodblock print illustrations. The front endpapers are decorated with floral designs.

On note of condition, this volume is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding. There is worming noted on the first 22 and final 10 leaves, with very minor worming occasionally noted at the margins throughout. There is minor staining to the bottom right corners.
