Title: Epicteti philosophi Enchiridion ac Cebetis Tabula: accessere Senecæ Liber de tranquillitate animi aliaq[ue] opta philosophica, 1660
Author: Epictetus; Lucius Annaeus Seneca; Cebes Thebanus; Arrian
Publisher: Coloniae, Apud Wilhelmum Friessem
Condition: Very Good
An extremely scarce mid 17th century edition of the Greek philosopher Epictetus’s Enchiridion, being the compiled manual of Stoic ethical advice compiled by his disciple Arrian. While mostly being derived from the Discourses of Epictetus, it is also a compilation of practical precepts. Avoiding the subject of metaphysics, Arrian prefers to focus his attention on Epictetus’s work applying philosophy to daily life, turning this book into a manual to show the way to obtaining mental freedom and happiness. As a fun note of trivia, this is the very same Enchiridion that gave inspiration to the tome of the same name in the popular show Adventure Time by Pendleton Ward.
