Title: Printemps Parfume, 1892
Author: Roman Coreen
Publisher: Paris, E. Dentu Edit.
Condition: Very Good

A late 19th century edition of Coreen’s translation of the tale Printemps Parfume, otherwise known as The Fragrance of Spring. Purportedly the first Korean novel translated into French going off the notice, the story is that of an impossible love between I-Toreng, a son from a wealthy family, and Tchoun Hyang, daughter from an impoverished family hailing from Namwon in Southern Korea. The tale critiques the weight carried with tradition, and the political system of the era.  Although there is no author credited, possibly owing to the critiques of government, it was purportedly written by an anonymous Korean writer at some point during the Joseon dynasty.

There are black and white illustrations throughout.

This volume has been uniquely rebound in colorful fabrics, almost something akin to upholstery, with white and gold against green.

One volume in 32mo, 140 pages

On note of condition, this volume is in very good shape, with light rubbing to the corners. There is very light foxing throughout.
