A 17th century Elzevir imprint of Ovid's Metamorphoses, broken down into 15 books, and comprising of over 250 myths taken from Greek Mythology. There are myths and tales from the Creation to such classical tales of heroes such as Perseus, tragic figures like Icarus, epics like the Fall of Troy, and ending with the apotheosis of Gaius Julius Caesar. Additionally added are the notes and commentaries of Nicolas Heinsius for this work, following the main text.
This is the second volume of three, with the other works of Ovid in the other two volumes.
One finely bound volume in 32mo, 356+(10)+465 pages
On note of condition, this volume is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and some stress to the hinges, with the front hinge starting to split. The headcap is lacking, and there is some peeling to the foot of the spine as well. There is very little foxing or staining throughout.
