An unusually scarce early 18th century bilingual edition of the Office of Holy Week and that of Pasques in Latin and in French, According to the Missal And The Breviary Of Rome And Paris.
The Holy Week offices (liturgies) lead worshipers through the events of the final days before Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. This volume gathers the prayers and biblical readings appointed for the entire week, including Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Text in parallel columns of French and Latin, with woodcut historiated initials and headpiece.
This edition is dedicated to the Madame la Duchesse de Bourgogne, otherwise known as Marie Adélaïde of Savoy, who was the wife of Louis, Dauphin of France, Duke of Burgundy. Though she died an untimely and early death to measles in 1712, her son Louis XV would later become King of France.
