He founded the Sogan school of calligraphy, which branched off from the Sonen school (Shoren-in school). He studied renga poetry enthusiastically, and 24 of his poems are included in the \"Tsukubashu\", the first imperial anthology of renga, which was assembled in 1356.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"\u003eThere are two calligraphy appraiser stamps, one which I do not recognize. The producer of the appraisal note and stamp I do recognize, however, is the Edo Period calligraphy expert \u003cb\u003eOkura Kosai\u003c\/b\u003e (1795-1862,) who served the Kishu Tokugawa family and was awarded the rank of Hokkyo. He died in 1863 but not before having appraised a wide selection of calligraphy, paintings, and other hand produced manuscripts and artworks.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"\u003eThe calligraphy has been laid down and bound in a scroll for preservation, with a beautiful brocade decorated cover of golden stripes against blue, and there are \u003ci\u003ejikusaki\u003c\/i\u003e (knobs).
