Title: Martyrologii Romani Gregorii XIII. jussu editi, Urbani VIII. et Clementis X, 1751
Author: Catholic Church
Publisher: Coloniae Agrippinae, Krakamp & Simonis
Condition: Fair

An uncommon mid 18th century edition of the Martyrologium Romanum, published by order of Gregory XIII, Urban VIII. and revised by the authority of Clement X, this being a new edition by Pope Benedict XIV.

A previous owner has added crosses in red next to certain calendars throughout.

This copy has been bound in blind stamped pigskin over wooden boards, with two intact and functioning brass clasps, and 4 brass fittings to the front and rear boards at each corner.

Worldcat records 32 existing copies of this edition in libraries.

Unusually, the 28-page preface does not appear in any collation record of this work, and appears to have been additionally bound in, judging by the specific level of wear and rubbing to the pages, and the fact that it alone is partially loosened from the text block as a gathering.

One pigskin bound volume in octavo, 28+104 (printing error from page 97 to 104 reading as 204 pages) +420+84 pages

On note of condition, this volume is in fair shape, with heavy rubbing and bumping to the boards, with the metal to the rear clasps oxidizing, and that rust affecting the last 14 pages to the margins. Pages 97-104 are heavily cracked and torn. The first 28 pages is partially loosened as a gathering but holding. There is foxing and staining throughout.
