Title: L'Office de la Semaine Saincte, 1661
Author: Catholic Church
Publisher: A Paris, Chez Antoine Ruette
Condition: Poor
A mid 17th century edition of L'Office de la Semaine Saincte, or the Office of Holy Week. There is a title frontispiece displaying Louis XIV, and 5 engravings by Landry throughout. There is also an additional leaf bound in, written by hand.
This copy is present in a red morocco binding, bearing the crowned royal monogram of Louis the XIV, King of France, and often referred to as the Sun King.
From the age of 5 until his death in 1715, his reign has been the longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country in history, emblematic of the age of absolutism in Europe.
The monogram was likely executed by the king's publisher and bookbinder, Antoine Ruette.
One finely bound volume in octavo, 468 pages
On note of condition, this volume is in poor shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and the front board having detached. The rear hinge is starting from the bottom, though holding. The first plate has small tears to the margins. There is foxing throughout and scribbling to page 346.
