Title: Lettere devotissime della Beata Verg. S. Caterina da Siena, 1584
Author: Santa Catalina de Siena; Domenico Farri
Publisher: In Venetia, apresso Domenico Farri
A late 16th century edition of the most devoted letters of the blessed virgin. St. Catherine of Siena, with all the diligence that could be reprinted. Catherine of Siena belonged to the third order of St. Dominic and was respected because of her visions, her self-sacrificing nursing and statesmanship. A 14th-century Dominican mystic, Catherine’s letters on mysticism, the papacy, and prayer were highly influential in the development of the Catholic Church through the Renaissance. These letters have provided a clear vision into mystical philosophy from the 14th century.
One limp vellum bound volume in octavo, 2 (of 4), 377 leaves
One note of condition, this volume is in good shape, with very little wear to the vellum binding, although the fastening straps are lacking. The title page and sheet A2 are lacking, with cracking to the front inner joint. There is foxing and staining throughout.
