A third Elzevier edition of Rohan’s book on the history and art of war, Le Parfait Capitaine. This focuses on the history and lessons of Caesar's campaigns, and their application to modern warfare, and contains appendices dealing with legionary methods of fighting and the art of war in general. Additionally bound is his work on the Interest of the Princes & States of Christianity.
On Rohan himself he was a Duke of Rohan and Prince of Leon, a French soldier, writer and leader of the Huguenot, with an extensive military career to his name.

On note of condition, this volume is in fair shape, with some wear and rubbing to the vellum binding. There is worming from page 135 to page 17 of the second volume, with a line of text almost completely obscured through a portion of those pages. There is also worming in the margins of pages 21 to 121 of the first volume. There is minor foxing and staining throughout.
