A late 16th century edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses, translated into French, and broken down into 15 books, comprising of over 250 myths taken from Greek Mythology.
From the Creation to such classical tales of heroes such as Perseus, tragic figures like Icarus, epics like the Fall of Troy, and ending with the apotheosis of Gaius Julius Caesar, this edition is vividly illustrated with 15 third-page engravings, one for each of the 15 books.
There are fragments of medieval binder’s waste used to the front and rear, possibly in Hebrew.
One vellum bound volume in octavo, (4)+268 leaves
On note of condition, this volume is in fair shape, with rubbing and staining to the binding, and some cracking to the spine. The text block is just holding onto the binding by one cord at the foot of the spine. There is staining throughout.
