Title: Le génie de Montesquieu, 1758. First Edition
Author: Alexandre Deleyre
Publisher: S.J. Reginald Saunders and Co.
Condition: Good

A first edition copy of Deleyre's Genius of Montesquieu.

A decorated man of letters, Deleyre met a number of famous philosophers of the age of Enlightenment, such as Denis Diderot and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He was later appointed librarian to Philip, Duke of Parma. Although he voted for the execution of Louis the XVI, he was a target during the Great Purge following the rise of Maxilmillian Robespierre, as he was also a Girondist, though luckily he was able to successfully flee into hiding.

One Volume in Octavo, 436 pages + index

On note of condition, this volume is in fair shape. The binding holds well, with minor foxing, and minor chipping and wear noted on the front cover corners.
