Title: La Nouvelle Methode Raisonnee du Blason, 1696
Author: Claude-Francois Menestrier
Publisher: A Lyon, Chez Thomas Amaulry,
A late 17th century edition of one of Menestrier’s many famous books on heraldry, being the 1696 revision. There are many symbols of heraldry throughout, though lacking most of the engraved plates of coats of arms.
Of Menestrier himself, he was one of the greatest French heraldists of his era, a member of the Society of Jesus, and attendant of the royal court. A pirated Dutch edition from 1691 also happened to include included five pages of anti-Louis medals, unfortunately harming Menestrier's position at court.

On note of condition, this volume is in fair shape, with light rubbing and wear at the corners. This copy is lacking most of the engraved pages of heraldic arms, as well as the frontispiece. The page edges are heavily worn.
