Title: La Mer Des Cronicques et Mirouer Hystorial de France, 1530(?)
Author: Robert Gaguin
Publisher: Paris, P.Regnault
An early 16th century edition of Gaguin’s Sea of Chronicles and Historical Mirror of France. Originally written in Latin and translated into French.
There are three full page woodcuts of the Crucifixion accompanied with tools of the Passion, and a double scene of the Battle of Tolbiac and the Baptism of Clovis, the second woodcut in repeat. There are also three genealogical tables, one being a foldout, 5 half page woodcuts, and 2 smaller woodcuts.
The title page is lacking, as are roughly the last 10 leaves at the end.
As there is no title page or colophon present, the imprint has been estimated by collation of the remaining leaves, and comparison to digitally archived copies.
One volume in folio, (11 of 12)+245 of 256(?) leaves
This volume is in poor shape, with heavy wear and peeling to the binding, with leather lacking and peeling to the spine. One preliminary leaf is detached, with the remainder worn. There is staining throughout.
