Title: Festes de l’Eglise en Chaque Mois, with Grandeaur de la Terre, du ciel, du Nombre hes Hommes, liste des Papes, Counciles, Ecrivains Ecclesiastiques, and More, Late 17th Century. French Manuscript on Paper, containing meticulous lists of Feast Days for Each Month of the Year, A Cataloged List of Popes, Councils, Schisms, Conclaves, and Much, Much More
Condition: Very Good

An extremely unusual and undoubtedly unique, late 17th century manuscript compilation of various lists pertaining to the Catholic Faith, beginning with a thorough list of every feast day of every month, for the entire year. Following up with that is a section espousing the Greatness of the Earth and Sky, and a tally of the number of men on earth.

Following that, is a chronological list of every pope and antipope, up to the end of the 16th century, then an entire, alphabetical list of each pope, displaying the year of their reign as well. From Saint Peter to Clement X, the lists do not skip a beat.

Then, there is a list of various schisms, beginning with the Novatianist schism, and ending with Pope Eugene IV’s issuance of the Bull of Union with the Greeks, which officially reunited the Catholic Church with the Eastern Orthodox Church, and temporarily ended the East–West Schism. As the list is not entirely exhaustive, I am not certain why these schisms were chosen in particular.

There is also a full list of the Catholic Ecumenical Councils, beginning with the First Council of Nicaea, and ending with the Council of Florence. This is then followed up by a nine-page, comprehensive, alphabetical list of every single General Council, Synod, and other historical, Catholic meeting, with dates indicating when each meeting was held.

There are also lists of papal conclaves, heretics or heresies (such as Ptolemy the Gnostic, the early Jacobites, and Lutherism), religious orders, and even an incomplete list of the Kings of France, the last leaves likely missing.

Whoever the author may have been, whether a seminarian, a priest, or just an individual with a significant amount of free time, this manuscript is a significant sign of sheer dedication and doggedness to making such a meticulous and devoted series of lists.

This volume has been finely bound in black morocco, with gilt tooling.
