Title: Die Bibel oder die ganze Heilige Schrift des alten und neuen Testaments 1850; bound with Evangelisches Gesangbuch, 1895
Author: Martin Luther
Publisher: Nordhausen, Muller; Elberfeld, Lucas
A late 19th century German edition of the Holy Bible, containing both the Old and New Testaments according to Martin Luther’s famous translation. This edition is additionally bound with an evangelical hymn book.
The bible is finely bound with embossed covers, and brass bosses. On the front are the words “Hine Seste Burg Ist Unser Gott”, otherwise translated to In The Castle Is Our God. On the back is a simple engraving of a chalice. There is a large working metal clasp present.
The endpapers are a bright cavalcade of gold against red, with an odd texture. There is also a flap at the center, unfolding to reveal nothing.
There is very interesting gauffering work on the page edges, done in a rather haphazard fashion, and the words “Alles mit Gott”, or All With God on the side.
