Title: Die Bibel oder die ganze Heilige Schrift des alten und neuen Testaments, 1830?; Bound with Episteln und Evangelia auf die Sonn- und Festtage, 1840
Author: Martin Luther; Heinrich Meyer
Publisher: Braunschweig, Hofbuchdr. Meyer,
A mid 19th century German edition of the Holy Bible, containing both the Old and New Testaments according to Martin Luther’s famous translation. This edition is additionally bound with Epistles and Evangelia on Sundays and Feast days.
The bible is finely bound with embossed covers and gilt on the covers and spine, with the monograms M.E.N and B.C.H on the cover. There is bright and shining gauffering work present on the entirety of the page edges. The sheen of the Bible makes it difficult to tell it is a jet-black color, or slightly green. The endpapers are a unique pattern of blue, red, white, and orange.
Engravings of the Sacred heart are present on both covers, with lettering present as well, though the letters on the front are difficult to make out. Though difficult to discern, the engraving on the back states something along the lines of “der herr regleit dich mit seinen engem auf einer begen”, roughly translating to The Lord Guides You with His Close Quarters. The date of 1844 is engraved on the back.
One finely bound volume in small octavo, X+(2)+884+253+3+432+(8), 80 pages
On note of condition, this volume is in good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the boards, and one crack present on the spine. There is little to no foxing or staining throughout. The title page is lacking.
