A finely bound mid 19th century volume of the letters of Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, otherwise known as the Madame De Sevigne. For nearly thirty years, she corresponded back and forth with her daughter, writing an astounding 1120 letters. With these letters being celebrated for their wit and vivid perspective on reality, she has become revered as one of the greatest icons of 17th century French literature. It was not until 1734 and 1737, that Pauline de Simiane, grandaughter of Mme de Sevigne, had the first complete edition of her letters published with the help of Denis-Marius, knight of Perrin.
