Title: Antiphonary, 18th Century
A massive undated 18th century antiphonary, bristling with hundreds of pages of liturgical choir music, with printed chants against musical notation. As the title page and final leaves are lacking, there is no distinct way to identify the publisher or imprint. The first four leaves have been supplanted by hand, with some added coloring.
This antiphonary is present in its original binding, with tooled brass corners, and the remnants of a belt buckle to the rear, which would have originally acted as a clasp to keep the volume shut.
One large volume in folio (52 x 35 cm), (8)+96+17-226+CCLV pages
On note of condition, this volume is in poor shape, with heavy rubbing and wear to the binding, and cracking to the spine with the upper half fully exposed. After page 96, the first section ends abruptly before starting on page 17 of the second section. The antiphonary ends at page CCLV. There is some foxing and staining throughout, which gets heavier midway into the second section. The gutters are exposed at page 188 in the second section. After the second section, there are also some pages which were previously stuck together, with small sections torn away when the stuck pages were pulled away from each other. The last 10 pages are heavily damaged and detached. At least one other leaf is detached.
