Title: Accounting Register for Jacques de Hodaige. French Manuscript on Paper, 1556
Author: Jacques de Hodaige
A mid 16th century manuscript accounting register belonging to a member of the Hodaige Family, dated 1556. The family of Hodaige (or Houdeige) counted among its members merchants, lawyers, men of the Church or holders of public offices (mayors, etc.). This manuscript is for the records of Jacques de Hodaige, clerk to nobles, with a tremendous quantity of entries in an elaborate hand, going as far as the year 1576. There is also a highly detailed table of contents (the list itself being produced in the 18th century) tipped in, displaying the complete list of records. There are numerous signatures, as well as many examples of extravagantly detailed initials.
This manuscript is present in an early embossed leather binding, likely contemporary to the period, and still impressive despite heavy wear.
One manuscript in folio, (23)+341+(13) leaves
This manuscript is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and some leather peeling to the head and foot of the spine. There are two small wormholes to the front cover. There is some ink staining throughout, heavier to two leaves.
