A mid 17th century edition of Marande’s Abbrégé curieux et familiar, otherwise known as The Key of Philosophers, being a large compendium of various abbreviations and terminology, from general philosophical terms, to topics of a more esoteric nature for the era, such as metaphysics and others.
The book is broken down into several sections for various terminologies, with one on logic, one for morals, another for physics (being the most extensive part), metaphysics, and finally more difficult terms for theology, the final section
This is a significant text and one of the most complete by de Marande, who was an anti-Jansenist polemist and opponent of Port-Royal.
Although the title page is lacking, this edition collates sharply more closely to the scarce 1659 edition.
One volume bound in limp vellum, 12mo, 556+(8) pages
On note of condition, this volume is in good shape, with a small hole to the front and back of the vellum cover, which is in otherwise very good shape. The title page and frontpiece is lacking. There is an extremely small wormhole present on the right margin of page 473 until the end of the volume, with extensive repairs noted at the last four leaves.
