Title: A Massive and Exquisitely Hand Painted Initial from a Manuscript Antiphonary, 15th Century. With Various Creatures. Manuscript Cutting on Parchment
Condition: Very Good
A massive and exquisitely hand painted initial, cut from a medieval manuscript antiphonary, probably from the 15th century. The script to the cutting is written in a solid gothic script. At the center of the initial are five fine drawings of various animals, including a deer, a hound, a lion, a bird, and some other type of creature. There are four other creatures straddling inside the letter, and two other smaller birds outside the letter.
The initial is painted blue and red, with a beautiful and complex array of designs and patterns accentuating it.
One manuscript cutting on parchment, 21.5 x 20.5 cm
This manuscript is in very good shape, with a bit of rippling and toning to the cutting. Some of the script has faded, though the initial itself is virtually untouched.
