He was commonly known by many names such as Shunzo and Fuse. His pen name was Ochu. His Buddhist name was Jyoa. He was born in Kyoto in 1792 as a member of the Fushida Family. As he grew older, he became a disciple of Kagawa Kagegara. Kagawa Kagegara was distrustful of the talent of his adopted son, Kageki, so he had Kageki establish a separate school and adopted Kagetsugu.
