Title: Stenciled Plainchant Manuscript Antiphonary, Containing Prayers for Mass, Complines, Vespers, and More, Early 18th Century
Condition: Good
A massive early 18th century largely stenciled manuscript antiphonary, containing a variety of chants and prayers. There are chants for various saints and dates, and specific prayers for Mass, Complines, Vespers, the Vigil of Assumption for the Blessed Virgin, and much more.
This manuscript is primarily stenciled throughout in black and red, though some areas and a few pages have been done more by hand. There is musical notation throughout, in a four-line staff format. There are large red initials throughout, though occasionally some blue ones too.
This antiphonary has been bound in an impressive and contemporary leather binding, with metal fittings and brass bosses to the corners, though several fittings are lacking.
One massive manuscript in folio (55 x 40 cm), 149 leaves
This manuscript is in good shape, with wear and scuffing to the binding. Some of the pages are worn at the edges, with some text loss, and there are a number of leaves with repairs (mainly to the top of the pages), with one leaf formerly repaired now split in half. There is some staining and ink staining throughout.
