A scarce late 15th century edition of the Works of Virgil, being the Zani imprint of 1491, and containing the famed commentaries of Servius, Landino, and Donatus.
The work is beautifully rubricated throughout with red and blue marks, and there are numerous woodcut initials of various sizes.
Digital scans compare this to the 1491 imprint, USTC record 989979.
USTC records 22 existing copies of this edition in libraries, with two imperfect copies, and only two North American holdings.
There is an ex-libris inscription for one Josephi Nehou.
The title page and leaves 312-328 are lacking. The Eclogues, the Georgics, the Aeneid, and Maphaeus Vegius are textually complete.
One finely bound volume in folio, 310 of 328 leaves
This volume is in very good shape, with minimal rubbing or wear to the more modern rebind. There are a few wormholes affecting several letters of text throughout the last quarter and first few leaves of the volume. There is minor, scattered soiling and staining, heaviest to the first and last leaves, with a small tear to the lower right corner of the first leaf as well.
