A late 19th century edition of Gruel and Engelmann's New Hours and Prayers Composed in the Style of 14th and 16th Century Manuscripts.
This work utilizes masterful usage of chromolithographic work, as would be expected of the bindery, with beautiful gothic lettering, large ornate initials, and colorful texts framed with gilt borders to each and every page, floral designs, and numerous illuminated figures. There are four full-page illustrations as well.
This volume has been exquisitely rebound for one Leopold Scharff, dated May 23, 1926, in morocco red. There are gilt designs to both covers and spine, with a coat and arms and an icon of a salamander.
One exquisitely bound volume in 16mo, (2)+176+(6) pages
On note of condition, this volume is in very good shape, with minor rubbing and wear to the binding, and a small scratch to the rear board. There is a small closed tear to the lower margin of page 59, and a scuff to another page. There is staining to page 1, and very little foxing or staining throughout the rest of the volume.
