An illuminated manuscript Qur'an from the late 18th to early 19th century, likely produced in Qajar Iran or the Eastern Provinces of the Ottoman Empire. The manuscript is signed by the scribe Issa, son of Haidar.
This Qur’an is written in black naskh font throughout in a 17 line format, with marks, surah titles, and marginalia in red, and gold roundel verse markers, along with shining gold and polychrome marginal decorations. The opening bifolio is a colorful gold and polychrome decoration of flowering designs, albeit damaged and faded, especially the first prayer. The final page and colophon is lacking, including the last verse to Sura Al-Nas. Several leaves of a simpler script have been bound in, potentially to replace missing text.
This Qur’an has been bound in a lacquer binding, with cartouches containing flower designs and reading prayers, and the name of the scribe to the front cover. It has also been rebacked.
One finely bound manuscript in 32mo, 265 leaves
On note of condition, this manuscript is in fair shape, with rubbing and wear to the original boards. The opening bifolio is heavily damaged and detached, with the first prayer having faded away completely, and a tear to the text margins of the second prayer. Several leaves have been repaired with tape. There is some staining throughout.
